Our Application Process
Mondragon continually accepts market applications for membership. Successful applicants are added to our pre-approve waiting list.
Mondragon does not accept applications for Rent Geared to Income Subsidy. Those interested in applying for a subsidized unit must contact the Region of Peel (Peel Access to Housing).
Before you decide to apply to Mondragon, you should do some research on co-operatives and the Co-operative Movement. From your research it is very important that you learn about:
- the co-operative movement
- what a co-operative is specifically a housing co-op
- the co-operative principles
- the aims of housing co-operatives
- the structure of a housing co-op
- how a housing co-op functions
- the obligations of a member of a housing co-op
- the main differences between a housing co-op and other forms of housing
- some of Mondragon’s by-laws and policies
After you have completed your research, if you decide that becoming a member of a housing co-op is the right choice for you and your family you may submit your application to our office in person or by mail. You may obtain a copy our application by clicking the link to the right “Download Market Rent Application Form.” Ensure that you have completed the application in its entirety and sign it and submit it to our office with all the required documentation and applicable fee as listed on the application form.
Once your application is received the C0-op will first perform administrative screening which includes:
- completing a credit check
- completing a landlord history check
- assess your ability to pay the applicable monthly market housing charge in full and on time
- assess your history of personal financial management (paying debts owed)
- verify all information on the application form
At the end of the administrative screening the Co-op will determine if your application should move on to the interview phase or not. Those who move on to the interview stage will be contacted by the Membership Selection Committee to schedule an interview your whole household must attend. At this interview you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge of co-operatives gained by your research.
Based upon the results of the administrative screening and interview the Board of Directors will decide whether to approve or decline your application.
Note: The Board will not provide a reason for approving or declining anyone’s application.
